In a bid to improve on the result of their younger counterparts, who reached the semi-finals earlier in the day, the mini-wandies under-18 team made a strong start in the opening game of their tournament against Crieff High School. A few days earlier, Crieff had enjoyed a coaching session from Wanderers player & Former Scotland Captain Paula Chalmers, and this showed with their impressive continuity in play between forwards and backs. Some sharp running lines and good support proved too hard to defend however, and lead to several scores for the Wanderers team.

Next up to face the Murrayfield team were the Northern Vixens, and again the Wandies team showed their class running in some great scores, displaying a mix of excellent team play and individual talent and defending brutally to win comfortably. Lisa Martin And Julia Blair in particular put in some crunching tackles, with Heather Law and Shona Peacock showing good pace and strength in attack.

This tournament had a round robin format, with the top 2 then playing off for the title. Wandies final pool game was against a new team at this level, Ayr, who stuck to their task and showed that with more game time they will be quite a handful at this level. Wandies again took this game in their stride and ran out comfortable winners. This meant that Wandies played Crieff again for the chance to win the crown in the final game of the day. In a repeat of the earlier performance, Wandies proved to possess too much pace, power and skill and after running in 32 unanswered points, they were deservedly crowned Scottish U18 7s Champions.

The reporter would like to apologise for not having more details of the scorers for the day as these were not written down due to there being too much else to do.

Squad: Mairi Forsyth, Heather Law, Niccole Gannucci, Ashley Manuel, Lisa Martin, Shona Peacock, Julia Blair, Claire Bain & Sam Chalmers.
