Lismore 96 Nottingham Uni 0

Friendly summer fun action at Union Park

There was a rare chance last Sunday for some summer 15s rugby. Nottingham Uni traveled to Edinburgh for a friendly against Lismore which was battled out at Union Park in surprisingly pleasant conditions.

The team that Lismore put out contained an interesting mixture of borrowed players. No less than six Scottish women's teams were represented with some girls traveling from as far a field as Glasgow and the Borders. While they waited patiently for the changing rooms to be vacated by the minis and for the touring team to arrive everyone had a good chance to introduce themselves and have a catch up chat.

Enthusiasm was no match against the Scottish side and as the first half drew to a close it had become apparent that Nottingham weren't going to get a win. To make things more interesting and entertaining, both teams swapped their forwards and backs into each other's positions at half time. This was not only amusing for the players but also the spectators who had showed up which included a number of injured players.

Despite the scrums going uncontested the new forwards complained about how much work they were now having to do, while the new backs were allowed a bit of a breather and enjoyed watching the action from the rear. The Scottish side's tries continued to rack up with scores coming from Sickie, Donna, Audrey, Sandra, Linda, Maz, Sarah-Lou, Di and player of the match Hazel. Conversions were also made by Lorna, Sickie and Sandra

After the full-time whistle, some roly-polies, a few water fights and the staging of a try to allow Brownie from the Notts team to score, the teams retired to the changing rooms. Everyone enjoyed the day and it raised the question about the possibility of non-team specific friendlies being arranged during the summer months next season. It was very encouraging that so many teams came together to form the Lismore team. We'd like to say a big thank you to the girls from Lismore, Kirkcaldy, Melrose, Royal High, Watsons and HillJills for turning out and special thanks to RHC for letting us use their pitches who all made the day possible.

An extra-special mention has to be made for Cecil and Emma who are both returning to their home countries and played their last game in the Lismore shirt on Sunday. Thanks for a great season girls and good luck.
