SNCF, the French railway company, has now confirmed that a late special train service will be in operation after Scotland's Rugby World Cup match against Italy in St Etienne on Saturday 29 September. The extra trains have been scheduled following last week’s request for supporters to advise the Scottish Rugby Supporters Club if they would be attending that game.
Trains will run to Lyon, departing from St Etienne at 23.40 (on the Saturday), 00.15 and 00.30 (Sunday).
Also, a TGV service will leave St Etienne for Paris at 01.00 on the Sunday. For this Paris service only, travellers must reserve their tickets in advance by contacting SNCF. Go to www.voyages-sncf.com and click on the British flag to access the English-language version of the and other details. page. Click on the advanced search button at the bottom of the page and then fill in your departure and arrival stations, date and time. Remember the 01.00 train from St Etienne will be leaving on 30 September
You have the option for the tickets to be delivered, to collect them from any station in France or, in some cases, print them out yourself. In all cases online payment is required.
St Etienne's Stadium Geoffroy-Guichard is 2.7km from the train station (St Etienne Chateaucreux). A direct tram service links the stadium with the station. The journey is about 18 minutes, and there will be bilingual helpers on hand to assist supporters.
