Hope you had a nice summer and are looking forward to getting back into rugby season as much as I am.We have had one of the hardest pre season's I think I have every_ had in my time as a professional rugby player and that was mostly down to the length of it. This was due to the fact that we finished a lot earlier last season and then started later this season. I must say that it has being hard, but a lot of fun and I"m now glad that we are into the playing of the game rather than the training for it.
We had some good pre-season games against top quality opposition and it was perfect that we finished off with a win against Viadana 2 weeks ago.
We were lucky enough to get last week off and get over some of the wee niggles that some of the boys had picked up during those first few games.
On a personal note it was nice to get back into action after have my shoulder operation in April.
We are really looking forward to starting the season on Saturday away in Dublin against Leinster. We always seem to have a really good game against those guys and this time will be known different.
We have set ourselves some tough goals for the first part of the season but as a team I think that we can achieve these and surprise a lot of people. For you who have seen us play already, you would have noticed a lot of younger guys out there and they love to play the game at a high speed. Being one of the older players I sometimes have to slow them down a bit and make them take the better option, the one that will get us into the position to do some more damage.
Finally I would like to say thank you to all of you who have stood by us this summer through all mess that has being going on. As players there wasn't much we could do about it and from our point of view we just got on with business. I hope that we can meet you expectations this season because we have set ours high.
All the best and I look forward to seeing you if not in Dublin then at Murrayfield when we play Ulster on the 28th.
