Edwards On Injury Boost

HENRY EDWARDS revealed that the squad has been bolstered by the return of Matt Dey for tomorrow night's opening Magners League home match against Ulster but Alan MacDonald misses the game through injury. Centre Dey, 26, missed last Saturday's defeat at Leinster after suffering a broken nose, but has been named amongst the replacements for the visit of Ulster.

But interim head coach Edwards also announced that 21-year-old flanker MacDonald is unfortunately available for selection after suffering a knee problem in training._

Edwards said: "We"ve had one or two knocks this week. Alan MacDonald got injured on Wednesday. He has damaged his knee and we are still assessing that at the moment.

'so he is unavailable for selection this week and Andrew Eason has got an ankle problem. They are the only two unavailable for selection. "But Matt Dey has returned from injury so he is included on the bench. He got a crack on the nose a couple of weeks ago and he was left out last week as a precautionary measure. He is back in for James Thompson among the replacements."

With Donald sidelined, Edwards outlined how the injury set-back affected the pack with Matt Mustchin switching to the back-row.

He added: "I"ve shuffled the forwards because of the injury with Matt Mustchin moving back to six, so there is an opportunity in the second row for Craig Hamilton."We have tried to keep the team as similar as possible just to give the guys another opportunity. It takes time for the team to gel, so I think with a consistent approach we can try and achieve that.

"In terms of other injury news, Calum MacRae is still recovering from an ankle operation while Andrew Eason is currently unavailable with a leg injury.Edinburgh Rugby team to face Ulster: De Luca, Turnbull, Cairns, Houston, Maxwell, Godman, Meyer; Allori, Kelly, Cross, Hamilton, Gissing, Mustchin, Rennie, Cross (captain).
