The Rugby Ecosse Scotland 7s team have been drawn against opponents from Australia, Thailand and New Zealand in the Singapore 7s which starts on Saturday.
The tournament is based on seven pools of four teams and Rugby Ecosse will face Tri Line Academy Development (Australia); Thai Barbarians; and New Zealand Maori in their pool.
There is a modern trend in international Sevens for innocuous sounding club names to disguise what in reality are powerful teams.
Thus at the Singapore Cricket Club International Sevens tournament which opens tomorrow, Rugby Ecosse will be in the mix along side a menagerie of Eagles, Vipers, Cougars, Dragons and Dingo Cubs any of which might posses a more serious threat than their names suggest.
However when the draw for tomorrow's play was unveiled last night, Ecosse knew at once that one team in their pool will represent a genuine challenge to coach Stephen Gemmell's objective of three wins from their three ties - New Zealand Maori.
Beforehand they will face a Development side from Tri Line Academy, Perth - one of eight entrants from Australia - and then Thai Barbarians.
The top two in the pool will qualify for the main tournament on Sunday. After training yesterday the players game through a final workout this morning with a clean bill of health and a boost to their profile when Gemmell was invited to participate in the country's top television sports programme, inappropriately called Soccer Crazy.
