Centre Matt Dey and lock Fergus Pringle are named amongst the replacements for the Magners League match against Llanelli Scarlets on Sunday (25 November, kick off 4.10pm) as head coach Andy Robinson targets his first win in charge of Edinburgh.
Dey has not been involved with the first team since September and has earned a recall after performing well at club level with Heriot's.
And the 26-year-old believes his absence from the first team scene has made him even hungrier to make an impact on his return.
He said: "I"ve played for Heriot's over the past three weeks after recovering from an elbow injury. You want to be playing rugby as opposed to not playing, so I think it is good that we can go back to the clubs to get game time.
"It was the first time I had played for Heriot's for about five years. Going back I had mixed emotions because I was not involved with the Edinburgh first team which is where you want to be.
"But at the same time you have got an opportunity to go and get some match fitness. I really enjoyed it and you feel like you can help them out while they are helping you out.
"I think competition for places at Edinburgh is healthy and not playing for a few weeks makes you hungrier.
'to get an opportunity to come back this weekend is great and if I can get a chance to come on then I will do my best to push forward my bid for a starting place."
But winger Simon Webster is still facing a race against time to prove he has fully recovered from a shin infection and the fans" favourite will undergo a fitness test on Saturday.
