Minutes before Ecosse where scheduled to kick off their campaign to reclaim the Weatherford Cup in the women??™s 7s competition in Dubai , they were informed that local Gulf club Boudicca had failed to show and that they were awarded a walk over.

This was deflating news, as the girls were looking forward to run-out before facing tournament favourites Richmond in now what had become their first tie.

Unfazed by the concession of an early try to the English girls, Ecosse took the game to the opposition and were rewarded when speedy transfer through the backs opened the way for Cara D??™Silva to take on the defence from deep inside her own half and the speedy Royal High winger showed terrific pace and a nifty sidestep as she made it all the way to the line for a terrific try.

Spirits soared a minute later when half an opening was created for her from closer range and this time strength in the tackle brought her a second try, this time converted by Tanya Griffith, and the Scots were unexpectedly ahead.

Alas, the lead was short lived as an obvious knock on was ignored by the referee and Richmond were able to hassle Ecosse defenders into error resulting in an equalising try and conversion just before half time, bringing the halftime score to Rugby Ecosse 12 Richmond 12.

The English squad including several of their national side cranked up the offensive in the second half and were able to exploit the relative inexperience of their opponents with some slick handling and possession play. This earned them three unanswered and unconverted tries in a second half which they dominated territorially but as evidence of the Scots tenacity all were to far out for successful conversions.

However, by virtue of the victory recorded on account of Boudicca??™s default, Ecosse qualify for the next round tomorrow, where they will play Arabian Gulf in the quarter-final.
