Women's Rugby at Morgan RFC: The season officially underway

Women's Rugby at Morgan RFC

The season officially underway for Morgan's women's rugby team.

The team competed in their first national development league tournament on the 7th of October. The day saw 22 players travelling to Glasgow. We competed in two 30 minute matches, the first against Cartha the host team. The team played brilliantly in this game the first time many of the players had played rugby. Unfortunately Cartha scored early on and despite several promising runs we were unable to equalise leaving final score was 5 - 0. The team came together brilliantly in this game taking the first half to really start playing as a team. In the second half we really started to show what we are capable of.

The team were not disheartened by the loss in the first game and went into our second game, against an experienced RDVC side, ready to put up a good fight. A score in the first half from Sharon Carstairs put Morgan 5 - 0 up. A long second half saw some impressive defensive play from Morgan, closing down every opportunity that RDVC had to score. The final score was 5 - 0 in Morgan's favour. Well done to Sharon Carstairs for getting player of the match in her first ever game of rugby (we were all just impressed she didn't in up in hospital after getting concussion playing touch) and to Sharon Smart and Mignon Buchman who were runners up for the award. Thanks to Cavy for taking on the role of coach for the day.

Morgan Rugby Club women's team now has 30 players training regularly and our positive experience at the first NDL makes it look like it will be a good season for women's rugby at Morgan. Thanks for the continued support of our coaches.
Our next tournament is at Edinburgh University on the 28th October, before our home tournament on the 18th November. On the 18th of November registration and training will start at 12.30 with games starting at around 2pm. Any spectators and volunteers, willing to give us there support on the day, would be greatly appreciated. There will be around 100 players coming to Morgan on the day from clubs as far away as Oban, Inverness and Ayr.
Congratulations, Morgan women??™s youngest player, Claire Bain who has been selected the Scotland under 18 development squads training.
