Morgan Hosts Ndl

18th November Morgan RFC, DundeeMorgan 0 RDVC 0
Morgan 15 Strathaven 0
Morgan 10 Strathaven 5
Morgan 0 Cartha 5
An overcast Dundee greeted only four visiting teams to Forfar Road for the third NDL fixture of the season ??“ Cartha, RDVC, Oban Lorne and newly formed Strathaven.
There was a great turnout from Morgan Women??™s side and after a training session on passing skills, the squad was split into two teams.
Morgan 0 RDVC 0
With no time to warm up, the Morgan 1st team were on against RDVC ??“ their third meeting this season, with Morgan hoping to widen the gap after a scoreless draw in Edinburgh in October.
Despite the promising start, RDVC called for uncontested scrums halfway through, leaving the Morgan side debating whether this was becoming a tactical move from opposing sides, especially as RDVC went on to play contested scrums in subsequent matches. The game proved to be more physical than usual and neither team broke through to score, despite getting close to opposite try lines.
Morgan 15 Strathaven 0
The second game of the day was a 9s match against Straven RFC. Morgan were able produce a quicker side for this game and this proved beneficial against the heavier Strathaven team who were unable to stop Sharon Carstairs scoring a succession of tries down their exposed wing. Claire Bain looked set to score the final try before almost ceremoniously passing to Karen Brown, who went on to score her first ever points, finishing the score at 15-0.
Morgan 10 Strathaven 5
Rather than going on to play another of the visiting teams, an organisational error from the SWRU initially requested that Morgan 1st team should play their seconds, but after protest, it was decided that they would play Strathaven again with a seconds side.
Morgan 0 Cartha 5
Meanwhile the Morgan 1st side played Cartha from Glasgow in their second clash of the season, with Morgan hoping to prove that they had progressed as a team after an early defeat to Cartha in their first game.
But again, Cartha called for uncontested scrums and this had a detrimental effect on Morgan??™s performance, with several scoring opportunities missed due to this decision, leaving no doubt that Morgan could easily have dominated and won the game if the scrums were contested.
However, this wasn??™t to be and a Cartha player broke through on the edge of the wing scoring their only points and Morgan failed to bring the score around, leaving a frustrated Dundee side losing 5 ??“ 0.
Thanks to all the spectators who came down despite the horrible weather!!
