Does London Calling Make Gemmell Tremble?

No, rather relishing the challenge, is the answer, as Scotland 7s coach Stephen Gemmell and his squad discover their pool partners for the IRB London Sevens. The seventh leg of the IRB World Series, on 24/25 May, sees the Scots drawn against Samoa, Kenya and Russia in Pool D.

The Scots are keen to build on their success at the 125th Melrose 7s on Saturday when, appearing under the Scottish Thistles development umbrella, they overcame tough opposition from the shadow Ireland squad and Leicester Tigers to win the Ladies’ Cup.
Scotland’s Twickenham test kicks off with a match against Kenya, who defeated the Scots in Hong Kong only three weeks ago. Three hours later, they'll take on top seeded Pacific Islanders, Samoa, who currently sit fourth in the IRB Sevens standings, followed by European Champions, Russia in the early afternoon.
Stephen Gemmell added, “These are all very difficult games but we’re certainly capable of qualifying from this group if we play to our potential. Melrose was a fantastic tournament for the guys and I was happy with the way we played, particularly in terms of our possession against the professional sides. If we can replicate those performances at Melrose by dominating possession, I’m confident we can qualify from this group.”
