Wanderers Edged Out In End-To-End Thriller

With a few call-offs, Wandies Hookers Heather Law and Amy Rennie helped out by playing half a game on the wing each. They dealt admirably with the Glasgow teams kicking game, but were probably grateful to get back to their preferred position.

It was Hillhead who opened the scoring first, after Wanderers had made some handling errors to let them off the hook in the first ten minutes. Heather 'HRL' Lockhart drove over from close range to score after several pick and go's from the home team.

Wanderers soon replied, with Rimski working her magic to stroll through to score. Wanderers then looked to be getting into their stride, when Tracy 'Walnut' McAdam fielded a loose kick to put Zulfi in to score in the corner.

The game continued in an end-to-end manner, with Hillhead scoring again through Susie Brown and HRL.

In the second half Wanderers put together some excellent phases, with scrum half Julia doing well under pressure from Rachy Nic. The defence eventually opened up for Shephead, who showed a turn of pace (where did that come from?) to squeeze between the defence and score. Wanderers thought they might have sealed the game when Zulfi scored from an inside ball from Shep shortly after, but Wanderers allowed Hillhead back into the game and Susie Broon finished off a move to add to her try tally for the day.

All in all a very exciting game, if games were played at that intensity every week it could only be good for the Women's game in Scotland...
