Traynor On Next Assignment

ImageKyle Traynor believes he will handle the strain of facing the Ospreys" all-star front row in his stride at the Liberty Stadium on Friday night (kick off 7.10pm) because on Wednesday he overcame immense pressure by completing his dissertation on Quantity Surveying at Napier University.

The 22-year-old prop, who signed his first professional contract with the club on Monday, has been named amongst the replacements for the match against the EDF Energy Cup winners.

For some players potentially making their opening first team appearance of the season, the prospect of packing down against Grand Slam winning front rower Duncan Jones would fill them with anxiety.

But the Watsonians captain admits that he is not fazed by the idea of facing high-profile opposition at the coalface because he has already handled a tough assignment earlier in the week.

Traynor said: "Everyone handles pressure differently and I"ve always been told that you can control the controllable. I"ve worked hard in both areas; my rugby and my studies. So that is all you can do.

"I don't like to leave things until the last minute, I like to prepare well and I'd like to think I"ve done that in both areas.

"I"m looking forward to playing against the Welsh front row, if I get off the bench, and I"ll just take it from there."

The Farnborough-born front rower acknowledges that he has been on a huge high all week after sorting out both his professional and academic business in the space of seven days.

He added: "It is a feeling of total relief to have sorted out my rugby future the same week I"ve handed in my dissertation. Now to get selected in the Edinburgh squad for the first time this season has made it even better.

"I"m extremely happy that everything seems to have fallen into place and that I can move forward. This weekend's match against the Ospreys gives me an opportunity to see where I am at before I start my career with Edinburgh in pre-season.

"It has taken a lot time, but I"ve worked hard and hopefully I can get my reward."
