Young Scots Sign For Glasgow

Forrester, Welsh & Jackson
Following last night's superb away win over Ulster, Glasgow Warriors are delighted to announce the signings of three young Scottish players from Glasgow clubs.

Two of the three players, back-row Calum Forrester (GHA) and stand-off Ruaridh Jackson (Glasgow Hawks), have graduated into the professional ranks from Scottish Rugby's National Academy whilst prop John Welsh steps-up straight from club level having impressed head coach Sean Lineen with his performances for GHA (Glasgow Hutchesons Aloysians) and the Scotland Club International team.

All three players have signed until 2010.

Speaking about his new recruits, Lineen said: "Calum [Forrester] has been working with us for a while now and I"ve been very impressed with his attitude and ability. He's been involved with the Scotland 7s team so I"m expecting big things from him and he"ll be a great addition to our Scottish back-row contingent."

On Welsh he continued: "I"m excited by this find. John could well prove to be a real gem. He's working very hard in the gym right now but it just proves that there are players in the club game that can come through to the professional level."

Excited by Jackson, Lineen added: "I first noticed Ruaridh playing for Robert Gordon's College at the Scottish Schools" 7s at Murrayfield. He is yet to realise his full potential but I"m confident he"ll get there by being involved in a professional environment."

Both Forrester and Aberdeen-born Jackson have also represented Scotland 7s on the IRB Sevens World Series and the man who has seen their progress through the National Academy system and coached them at international sevens level, Stephen Gemmell, had much praise for the two players.

He said: "Both Calum and Ruaridh have worked hard over the last number of years and have really bought into the Academy system which has had a positive impact on their performance. Their progress is very much deserved and I wish them both all the very best for the future with Glasgow Warriors."

Season tickets for the 2008/09 campaign are now available. Season ticket prices for the new season are frozen for adults, remaining at _150, a saving of _65 compared to buying tickets for individual games. That's the equivalent saving of four free games!
