Laidlaw On Twickers Raid

ImageEdinburgh scrum half Greig Laidlaw admits he is plotting a cross-border raid for silverware with Scotland's 7's team this weekend (24/25 May) when he features at the IRB Emirates Airlines London 7's.

The 22-year-old played a key role in the Scottish Thistles lifting the 125th Melrose 7's last month and is now preparing to launch an attack on uncharted territory; the home of English rugby, Twickenham.

Laidlaw said: 'this will be the first time that I"ve ever played at Twickenham, so I"m looking forward to going down there and we"re aiming to do well.

"All the boys are looking forward to going down to Twickenham. We"ve got Kenya first up, so we"re just looking forward to the first game.

Greig is in for next season and you can also join a growing club that is heading in the right direction by signing up for a 2008/2009 Edinburgh season ticket. The great value prices range from _150 for Adults through to _30 for Juniors (under-18's). Reserve your place at the Castle today by calling 0131 346 5180.

"I think we can take some momentum from the win at Melrose, although Sevens is a lot different at international level.

"It is a lot tougher, but we can still take something from that experience. We played well at Melrose and the mood in the camp is pretty good at the moment.

"We have trained well building up to it and now we will be looking to do a good couple of sessions before the tournament starts."

Laidlaw is not the only member of the Black and Red Army to be involved with Steve Gemmell's squad for the final two tournaments of the IRB World 7's (including the Edinburgh 7's next Saturday) with winger Andrew Turnbull and hooker Steve Lawrie both receiving late call-ups.

Edinburgh Accies half-back Laidlaw believes both will bring different qualities to the Scotland 7's side and expects them to make a significant impact in London.

He added: 'stevo will bring some power and size to the squad and there will be games where that will be really useful.

'turny will bring some speed and some 7's knowledge to the team which will help quite a lot."
