Gregor Hoping For Double Celebration

ImageGlasgow Warriors utility back, Colin Gregor, who is also Scotland's highest ever points scorer in IRB events, is hoping for a double celebration this Saturday (31 May) as he takes to the Murrayfield turf with the Scotland 7s team on day one of the Emirates Airline Edinburgh 7s.

Not only will he compete amidst the big party atmosphere that is synonymous with the IRB Sevens World Series, but he will be hoping for a successful opening day of the Edinburgh finale which coincides with his 27th birthday.

Looking forward to the big day, Gregor said: "It's always a unique experience playing at Murrayfield and it"ll be even more enjoyable because it's my birthday._

"I had a pretty quiet one last year because I was preparing for the first Edinburgh 7s, so to share it with my team mates and the thousands of supporters makes it all the more special.

"Here's hoping we all have something to celebrate by having a successful first day."

The Scotland 7s squad have reached five Cup quarter-finals in seven tournaments so far this year and are looking to end their campaign on a high at their home tournament.

The last time the squad were on home soil, under the guise of the Scottish Thistles, the Scotland 7s squad won the 125th anniversary Melrose Sevens at the Greenyards.

Despite a tough draw, against Argentina, Australia and South Africa, the Scots remain in confident mood.

Coach Stephen Gemmell added: 'this is a special opportunity for the players to represent their country. They will be competing against the best sevens teams on the planet at Murrayfield amongst the big party atmosphere which makes rugby sevens so popular around the world.

'there's no doubt we"ve got a tough draw on day one, but we just need to concentrate on our own performance and if we get all the details right, then I"m confident we"ll do our country proud."
