This milestone was reached just a month after it was announced that Murrayfield would host the 2009 final and tickets rocketed since - the sharpest pick-up of tickets in the tournament's history.

Tickets for the big game are now selling at around 300 a day underlining the Heineken Cup's status as the most prestigious piece of club rugby silverware.

Last week the draw for next season's Cup, which kicks off in October, placed Glasgow in a group with former champions, Toulouse and Bath, and Welsh side Newport Gwent Dragons, while Edinburgh were pitted against 06/07 winners and Guinness Premiership champions, London Wasps, French outfit Castres Olympique and Irish province Leinster.

This is the second time that the most high profile game in Northern Hemisphere club rugby has come to the home of Scottish Rugby and with ticket sales so high so soon the game is expected to be a sell out months in advance.

Scottish Rugby Chief Executive Gordon McKie said: "Scottish Rugby is committed to attracting world class events to Murrayfield and we look forward to working with our key partners to ensure that this match is a wonderful success.

Tickets for both matches are now available at www.scottishrugby.org; via the credit card hotline 0131 346 5100 (booking fee applies) or in person from Scottish Rugby's Ticket Centre at Murrayfield.
