Egt: Contenders Ready?

ImageGLADIATOR Battleaxe has issued a rallying cry ahead of the Edinburgh's Got Talent Final on Saturday 23 August at Murrayfield: Rugby fans show us what you"ve got.

Battleaxe " real name Shirley Webb " from Sky One's popular TV show has been lined up as a celebrity judge alongside Gavin Hastings for the spectacle, in conjunction with the Scottish Sun.

The pair will run the rule over several acts_before Edinburgh's friendly match against Wasps which will also see the climax of Edinburgh's Fittest.

Over recent weeks, gyms across the Scottish capital have been searching to find who exactly will be crowned the fittest person in Edinburgh: a campaign close to Battleaxe's heart.

She said: "I"m so excited to be a part of it because it sounds like brilliant fun. I can't wait to judge all the acts and see how talented the people of Edinburgh really are.

"Edinburgh's Fittest is also a cause that I"m really interested because I am keen to get people to become more active, especially kids."

"I know that there will be a lot of kids coming along to support Edinburgh on Saturday 23 August and there should be a good atmosphere."

Former Olympic hammer thrower Shirley admits that she is planning to take up rugby in a bid to prepare for the rough-and-tumble of the next season of the Gladiators.

She added: "Gladiators is the ultimate challenge for me because it is so tough and physical. I love performing in front of millions of viewers.

"After playing all the contact games in Gladiators like Duel, I"m actually thinking of starting to play rugby to get in shape for the show."

After watching her boyfriend Scotland Sevens star Ben Addison play at Murrayfield in an international tournament, Battleaxe says she cannot wait to follow in his footsteps by taking centre stage at the home of Scottish Rugby.

She said: "I love coming to Murrayfield to watch Scotland and Edinburgh play, so I"m really looking forward to just getting out there."
