Webster On Munster Challenge

ImageSimon Webster scored for Edinburgh with a thrilling effort against Bath in Friday night's 19-8 win at The Rec but says pre-season victories will be immaterial unless the team can defeat Munster next Friday (5 September, kick off 7.30pm).

The Scotland wing_latched onto David Callam's kick through to score and hand Edinburgh an impressive win at the European Challenge Cup holders.

The buzz around EH12 is growing as the countdown towards the new Magners League season continues. European champions, Munster will be heading to the home of Scottish Rugby and the Irish Province will be the first obstacle for Edinburgh, the team everyone is talking about, to overcome. Webster said: "I owe Dave Callam a lot for my try. We turned it over at the ruck and he got a foot on it and I shouted; "kick it on". He put the kick in for me and it was absolutely perfect; it bounced up for me and I just ran it in.

"It is nice to get on the scoresheet, but I wasn't concerned about not scoring for Edinburgh for so long. Rugby is a bit different to football; anyone in the team can score not just the wingers. But it is certainly nice to score and I"m more than happy to score.

After sending the English champions, Wasps home tae think again on Saturday and now having defeated Bath on their home turf, Edinburgh are in an understandably buoyant mood ahead of the big kick-off.

But Webster stresses those results will count for very little when the real business of Magners League action starts.

He said: "It is just nice to keep the momentum going through pre-season. We"ve had two good wins, so in that respect, but now it all comes down to playing Munster in our first game (Friday 5 September, kick off 7.30pm).

"We"ve got to back up these two decent performances with a display against them. It is nice to win, but now it is all about concentrating Munster in our first Magners League game."
