Houston: Back In Black (And Red)

ImageJohn Houston cannot mask his excitement at the prospect of playing for Edinburgh again in tonight's Magners League match at Ulster (kick off 7.30pm) after recovering from a troublesome pelvic injury.

The 25-year-old centre (pictured receiving his award from Duncan Hodge)_enjoyed a whirlwind rookie season in the Black and Red and was duly crowned Newcomer of the Year at the annual awards dinner.

But he has suffered a false start to his second campaign as a professional with Edinburgh after spending the opening month of the season sidelined with a pelvic problem.

Now the former Hawick and Heriot's man is back in the starting line-up to face Ulster, who he scored his first ever Magners League try against 13 months ago.

Houston said: "I"m delighted to have been given an opportunity to get straight back into it. I"m going to give it me best shot.

"It was pretty frustrating. I had managed to generate a lot of momentum during the opening half of last season, but then I picked up my injury in February.

"I played through until the end of the season and I hoped it would recover over the course of the summer.

"But I didn't recover in time when I'd hoped it would. So it was very frustrating to have missed the pre-season friendlies and also the first four league games.

"But I"m fortunate to have a good medical team supporting me and some great team-mates, so I"m ready to go now. I"m looking forward to making up for lost time."
