Oasis To Play Murrayfield

Iconic rock band Oasis are to play Murrayfield Stadium next year as part of their biggest ever tour of open-air venues in the British Isles. The band, fronted by brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher, will play at the home of Scottish Rugby on Wednesday 17 June 2009.

The concert is part of a number of major events that will be staged at Murrayfield next year.

In addition to three matches in the RBS 6 Nations Championship - against Wales (8 February), Italy (28 February) and Ireland (14 March) - Murrayfield, Scotland's biggest stadium, will host Rugby Football League's Magic Weekend (2/3 May); the Heineken Cup Final (23 May); and the Emirates Airline Edinburgh 7s (30/31 May).

Scottish Rugby's Chief Executive Gordon McKie said: "The Oasis concert is part of our strategy to bring world-class events to the stadium, the city of Edinburgh and Scotland.

_x001C_Monies that we can generate from major events are reinvested into growing the game of rugby throughout Scotland.

_x001C_We will be working very closely with our partners and stakeholders, including the local authority and police to ensure we put on an event of which everyone can be proud."

A City of Edinburgh Council spokesman added: "Edinburgh has an unrivalled reputation for hosting major events of all kinds. This is yet one more event which we welcome at Murrayfield Stadium and we will also work with our partners to ensure a safe and successful concert for all."

Oasis will be supported by Kasabian and The Enemy for the Murrayfield gig.

It will be their second appearance at Murrayfield, having played there in 2000.
