Penicuik and Gracemount high school teams took part in the first Midlothian High Schools rugby competition, organised by Midlothian Council. The lads were joined by Beeslack and Newbattle high schools from Midlothian and Edinburgh's Liberton high school. Alex Edmonstone, Midlothian rugby development officer, said: "As well as being great fun, rugby provides youngsters with an opportunity to learn about team-work and to develop physical skills while getting healthy exercise at the same time."
Gavin and Morag McQuillan from Penicuik RFC recently organised the annual mini tournament in the town with teams from Dalkeith, Lasswade, Peebles, Portobello and Kelso taking part - with the Edinburgh lads taking the tournament spoils.
Alex added: “In sport, winning is important, but so too is taking part, so everyone who took part in these rugby events came out as a real winner - and my thanks also go to Gavin and Morag for all their help the making the mini tournament a success for all.”
