Stewartry 39 Forrester FP 8
A GREAT display of running rugby by an up and coming Stewartry squad saw them inflict a crushing defeat on Forrester. A number of players returned to the squad after injury meaning the coaches had almost a full complement of bodies to pick from.
From the start they looked more settled than their Edinburgh opponents. Early pressure by their commanding forwards released the backline which looked dangerous every time they got a quick, clean ball. D Dunlop sailed over for the Blacks first try, which was converted
J Muir slotted a penalty some minutes later to increase the lead, although Forrester did respond and were awarded two consecutive penalties, converting the latter.
This seemed to anger the Blacks and they smashed their way around the park, rucking convincingly from side to side and releasing J Muir who ghosted past his opposite number to score.
The game settled at this stage and a lot of kicking from hand was evident, with neither team making progress. Forrester did put pieces of play together and the Blacks had to work hard in defence.
A quick turnover ball to the Stewartry allowed silky passing to give M Yates space and from 50 yards out he proceeded to snake his way through the defence and covering tacklers to score a peach of a try that was converted to give Stewartry a 22-3 half time lead.
