Scotland under-19 head coach Colin Robertson admits he is pleased with the progress being made by his squad after the development game between the Home Based Scots against the Scottish Exiles ended in the former winning 36-7.
In a game staged at Rockcliff Rugby Club, Whitley Bay, Robertson cast a watchful eye over the players ahead of the matches against Italy (Sunday, 1 March, kick off midday at Lasswade).
Robertson said: “The next stage of the Under-19 programme is to confirm selection in our sessions in February. “Then we have two international matches against Italy and France. Right now, we are pretty happy with where we are. We have got some good players and we are pleased with how they are progressing.”
On Sunday 7th December the Homed Based Scottish Under 19s travelled down to the North of England to play the Scottish Exiles Under 19s as part of the Under 19 Performance programme. The development game made up of four twenty minute sessions followed on from two Scottish Exiles Performance Development camps that were held in August and October and also training sessions for the Home Based squad at Lasswade Rugby Club.
The game was played at Rockcliff Rugby Club in Whitley Bay, following two venue changes due to frost. The Home Based Scots led 36-7 after three of the twenty minute sessions. Tries were scored by Kris Hamilton, Douglas Fife, Rory Drummond, James Johnstone (2) for the Home Based Scots and Callum Williams for the Exiles. This game is part of the process leading up to the Scotland Under 19 selection in the New Year prior to the International fixtures against Italy and France.
