Gordonians Come Unstuck In Coatbridge

Waysiders Drumpellier RFC 22 Gordonian RFC 0

Gordonian President Chris Snape travelled with the team to Coatbridge on Saturday and filed this report on the match against Waysiders Drumpellier:

“On a very heavy and muddy pitch, Waysiders took a ten point lead after twenty minutes. A charged down kick and a good number eight pick-up resulted in two well taken tries. The heavy pitch suited Waysiders’ bigger pack, and their back row and inside centre provided the momentum for them to add a further converted try before half-time.

Early in the second half, Waysiders scored their best try with the ball going through many hands before a touchdown in the corner. The score stood at 22-0 with thirty minutes of play to go. How would Gordonians respond? To their credit, they battled on, created a few breaks of their own, and Jimmy Lamont and Andy Johnstone made a couple of try saving tackles. Bob Fraser, on his return to rugby after injury, put in a good performance and worked himself to a standstill.

A loss, yes, but the second half provided lots of positives for Gordonians to build on in the coming weeks.

Man of the Match was Bob Fraser. (Unfortunately he didn’t win the raffle!)”

This result puts Waysiders up to second place in National League Division 3 and GRFC down to tenth. Gordonians’ next fixture is against Marr RFC, the club one place above them in the league. Players on both sides will no doubt be very eager to record a win in that game in order to help their team to move away from the relegation zone. The match takes place at Countesswells next Saturday (24th) and kicks off at 2.00pm.
