Students Face Auld Enemy At Lasswade

Scottish Universities will match up against their opponents south of the border when they take on English Colleges at Lasswade tonight (Friday 27 February) at 7.30pm.

Their visitors form a developing tier within English rugby, and this is their first encounter with the new Scottish Universities set-up.

The preparation week has not been ideal for the students with a full schedule of inter-university matches being played. Nevertheless, the team will lopk to improve on their opening performance against French Universities when they went down 57-0.

The Scots must take note of lessons learned against the French especially at the contact area and in defensive organisation.

Scottish Universities Coach, Chris Reekie said: “It is essential for Scottish Universities to build on the development so far. The focus is on generating quick ruck ball to feed the strong finishers in the side. Against the French we were unable to maintain any continuity and our attacking forces were limited.

“The boys now know what is required at this level and I’m sure the added incentive of taking on their English counterparts will spur them on.”

The match kicks off at 7.30pm at Lasswade RFC, near Edinburgh. There is a £2 entry fee on the gate.
