Deeside'S Kicking Gives Them The Win

A combination S1/S2 Deeside team took on Garioch last Sunday in Aboyne and in a hard fought and close game Deeside came out winners.  The game was played as three 20 minutes periods, and in the first period Deeside went behind by two tries.

They came back strongly in the second period, however, scoring three tries to one.  In the final period Garioch were very determined and Deeside had to dig deep and work very hard on their defence.  Liam Hutcheon, and William McLennan were notable for their consistently strong tackling of much larger opponents as was the all round performance of Rody Phimster despite playing the whole game out of position.

The final period ended with Garioch having scored two tries and Deeside only one.  Nonetheless, despite a try count of 5 to 4 in favour of Garioch, they failed to convert any of their tries, whereas Deeside converted all four (100%).  Thus the game ended 28 points to 25, if a try is counted as 5 and a conversion as 2 points, or in official S1/S2 scoring, where a try is 3 points and a conversion 1 point, the final score was 16-15.

This coming Sunday 8th March, a combined S1/S2 side will travel to play Buckie way.  Check the website for the latest details or call Steve on 013398 83321.  Note training this week for S1/S2 and until further notice will be held in Aboyne because the Tillybrake fields in Banchory are current unusable.
