Jekyll And Hyde At Deeside Rfc

In the last 4 weeks Deeside Rugby FC have had 3 games, one against Birkmyre RFC in the Plate, Aberdeen Wanderers and West Dyce in the league, and the Aberdeen Wanderers Match report summoned up the Deeside Season

“A good team that has under achieved this season” and the Aberdeen report goes on to say

“The game was the hardest game they had had all season but in the second half Deesides confidence seemed to falter”.

Deeside played some excellent rugby, good offloads and ball retention along with strong running through the backs, clearly putting Aberdeen Wanderers under intense pressure with good decision making and execution of play.

Deeside lost the game 35 v 7 which was not a reflection on the play.

Against Birkmyre RFC  Deeside made the 4 hour trip and never got off the bus ultimately loosing out on progressing further in the Plate competition.

On Saturday an away trip to West Dyce saw Deeside run out convincing winners with a 27v 7 win as they ran in 5 try’s all of which demonstrated the style of play the club wants to produce getting the ball through the hands and making good angles to create try scoring opportunities.

They ran the ball through the backs consistently opening up the West Dyce defence and throughout the game West Dyce struggled to get into the Deeside half as strong and effective tackles along with consistent pressure on the West Dyce players took it’s toll.

The Deeside forwards did well as they kept the ball and looked to run up the pitch with some good work from a number of players.
With 2 home league games left against Shetland on the 28th a 1pm KO and Banff on April the 4th a 3pm KO all support welcome.

Deeside can still finish with 2 very good convincing wins and potentially end up 3rd.

So what does this mean for Deeside a club with big plans for the future?
The players needs quite simply self belief, to keep and build on what is becoming a good squad of players, maintain and improve the levels of key skills that have now become a trade mark of their style of play. And execute the game plan with intensity and composure - if this all happens next season who knows what the end result could be.
