Mathon Melrose Sevens Draw

The draw has been made for the Mathon Melrose 7s 2009 which will see Fijian 7s maestro, Waisale Serevi, run out at the Greenyards in the world famous testimony to the abbreviated game (11 April, 12.45pm).

The Melrose event will be Serevi’s final competitive outing when he takes to the field for Leeds Metropolitan University in their opener against Ayr.

2009 is the 126th Melrose Sevens with guest teams coming from far and near. Previous years have included sevens guests Randwick and Manly from Australia, Bay of Plenty from New Zealand, University of Free State and Stellenbosch from South Africa.

Europe has been represented by guests from England, France, Portugal and Ireland  - to name a few - with Scotland 7s shadow side, Scotland Thistles, taking the top prize, the Ladies Cup, at last year's event.

The town of Melrose takes on a carnival atmosphere with the day being considered a main social date in the sporting calendar and to complement the main Melrose 7s tournament many other attractions are being planned for the event.
