The final National League Division 3 matches of the 2008-2009 campaign were played on Saturday, and the results mean that Gordonians ultimately finished in seventh position despite being in the relegation zone for their last few games of the season.
Sadly, a fellow North-east team, Strathmore, is relegated as Ross High beat third-placed Trinity Academicals to escape the drop zone. Lenzie had previously reached safety after their unexpected defeat of league champions, Lasswade.
Our commiserations go to Strathmore, especially as they put up such a strong and courageous performance against Gordonians in the final match of the season for both clubs. Gordonians’ hard fought victory on that occasion was crucial – without it, it is they who would have been relegated!
That’s my last article on league action as webmaster. One more general ‘signing off’ piece will follow shortly.
