For the first time in Deesides history their S1 team played a touring side from Musselburgh RFC. Musselburgh were guests of Mackie S1 and the game was played at the Redcloak Ground in Stonehaven. The S1’s were expecting a tough fixture but having already played one game against Mackie in the pouring rain at 10.30 before their fixture with Deeside at 12.30 looked to have taken its toll on the Musselbourgh side.
That said, it should also be said that this was Deeside’s best team performance for some considerable time. With perhaps the strongest squad fielded this season depite one key player missing due to injury, Deeside were more than a match for Musslebourough in all areas of the game.
The game was played in three twenty minute periods and Deeside ran in a total of 9 tries to 3 overall. Of particular note were the performances by Will Underwood who was at the heart of the action throughout, Elliott Wood whose power breaking through the gain line constantly disrupted the Musselburgh defence, and Connor Bull who put in a very committed performance on the wing. Adam Thomson playing at hooker also put in a notable performance and Liam Hutcheon added his strength to the backline. Deesides try scorers were John Crilly (4), Sam Morris (2), Liam Hutcheon, Elliot Wood and Alex Fyfe.
