The road show started at Oban Lorne on Sunday 2nd August – 11 coaches and 20 players from all over Argyll & Bute attended the event. The focus was on the development of the players’ ability to perform the National Themes and the coaches understanding and ability to coach the National Themes.
Performance Development Manager Nic Humphries, Regional Development Manager Kenny Brown and specialist coach Jimmy Sinclair led 4 practical sessions with the players’ and coaches – building up the National Themes – hand catch; offloading; ball presentation and individual tackle technique. Following the practical and energizing lunch Kenny Brown and Nic Humphries led an indoor session on continuity, whole-part-whole coaching and a presentation on an overview of the National Player Pathway. The final part of the event was a practical scrum session with specialist coach Jimmy Sinclair and an explanation of new Law variations for the season from William Mallone.
The event was a great success and will remain an annual occurrence to support player and coach development in the Region. The road show now moves down towards Glasgow, Dunbartonshire and Lanarkshire – for more information please check the Scottish Rugby Website or contact PDM Nic Humphries.
Thanks must go to Billy Thompson (Argylle & Bute Development Officer) for organising the event.
