Glasgow National Pathway Roundup – Regional U15 & U16
The regional U15 & U16 National Pathway finished for 2009 on the last day in August – 14 sides had trained within their region since the programs started early in May. The teams played a series of matches through August all over Glasgow District from Mull and Oban to Biggar, Dumfries, Stewarty, Irvine, Cumnock and Helensborough to name a few venues – in total 23 matches were completed through the rain of August. Thank you to all the clubs that hosted the pathway matches in what were difficult conditions for the time of year.
This years’ crop of players were coached through the program by the volunteer coaches and Development Officers on the National Coaching Themes – Hand catch, offload, ball presentation and tackle technique. To gain a nomination and a chance to progress through to the Glasgow Squads the players would have to ‘showcase’ these themes to a high standard through all their matches. The standard was high this year and over 50 players have received nominations for each age group and will move through to train for their district (letters & squad announcement to happen in the next week). A huge thank you must go to all the volunteer coaches and managers that spend a lot of their spare time with these groups of players – their input to these young players is a vital to their development.
A final thank you must go to the referees and first aid (and physiotherapists’) who attended all the matches and ensured the matches were played in a safe environment.
The National Pathway now moves on to the District squads and the preparation of the players for the IDC matches and the Scotland Development U17 squad and the Scotland U18 squad.
