The players nominated through the Regional Pathway at U15 level came together at Hamilton Palace on the 14th & 15th October for a 2 day training camp at Hamilton Palace Sports Ground. There were 60 players invited from the North & South of Glasgow – after holiday commitments and injuries – 48 players attended the camp.
The focus was on 2 of the National Themes – Hand Catch & Offload. The players took time to adjust to the new environment at Hamilton and the good weather! A long session on handling tested not only the players ability to perform this core skill, but also fitness levels too as the players were taken through a vigorous warm up and active practices – all skill levels were improved.
The afternoon offloading session saw the arrival of Glasgow Warriors Callum Forrester & Chris Kinloch – both spoke with the boys before joining the coaches in running the players through the offloading session. Thanks to both Callum & Chris for their support.
48 sets of tired legs arrived on Thursday – but the boys were ready for the last 2 National Themes – Ball Presentation & Individual Tackle Technique. Again vigorous warm ups and sessions took the players through their paces and tried to improve their skill development. A lunch time session on how to develop their core strength broke up the 2 sessions and showed the boys what they need to do ‘off’ the rugby pitch. At the end of the day the tired bodies left with an information booklet on the Key Themes and Core Strength Training – an aid to help develop the players.
Thanks to coaches Rob Orr (Dumfries), Colin Dickson (West of Scotland) and Kenny Brown for all their efforts.
