A very wet and slow pitch at Tillybrake didn’t impact on Deeside’s pace in their latest league encounter against Mackie. Several of the usual forwards were unavailable for this match and S2’s Tyler Booth and Elliot Wood were drafted into the front row. At first the scrum looked like it would be a pressure area for Deeside as the first few scrums gave ground, but at each scrum Deeside improved and it wasn’t long before they were the ones applying the pressure. Throughout the game Deeside dominated possession and territory running in a total of 11 tries. Tom Christie, Kyle Dawson, Luke Earle-Wright and Angus Rennie, both scored two a piece. Mackie defended well at times, but Deeside’s more inventive play and quicker second phase attacks were decisive. Other try scorers for Deeside were Tyler Booth, who really raised his game to the challenge, Alex Taylor, who always makes good ground with the ball, and Sam Morris who’s constant pressuring of the opposition lines led to the final try for Deeside from an interception. This was unfortunate for Mackie as the interception put a swift end to Mackies best period of pressure on Deeside of the whole game. Deeside will be pleased with this result as several of the regular forwards were missing, and backs Paul Dargie and John Honey were drafted into the pack as flankers where they did an excellent job both in attack and in defence along with back row stalwart James Ferguson. There is no U15 game next week, but there is a game for the S1/S2’s with Garioch at Tillybrake - Check the Club website for the latest details. http://www.deeside-rfc.co.uk/
