Broughton Women Enjoy Ndl Success

6th Dec 09 - Broughton WRFC 45 vs 20 Oban / St Andrews

NDL Day 3 saw a selection of aspiring female rugby players from across the country enjoy a day at Wardie!

Broughton, Oban Lorne and St Andrews took part in Sunday's NDL 3 at Wardie on a cold day which saw approx 30 players battle it out in a competitive game sandwiched by skills sessions.

The game was played over 3 periods, with the Broughton team, assisted by a couple of guests to allow everyone the opportunity to play, won the match 40-20.

Kinghorn and Coombs scoring a brace of tries each and Gaskell & Nicholls picking up a try apiece. Broughton's opening try came from one of the St Andrews guests.

Kinghorn also added to a fine points tally with 5 conversions.

Man of the Match Nicholls was instrumental in several Broughton breaks, stealing lots of ball in the breakdown and her no nonsense tackling earned her the plaudits in the Clubhouse afterwards. Hot on her heels in the tough tackling stakes was Gaskell who hit everything that came within a 10 metre radius of her!

With a big game coming up next week against Melrose, it was great to get some form of game time to dust the cobwebs off.

It was also great to see new recruit Wendy Callan make her Broughton debut and attempt to down her pint in the Clubhouse afterwards.

Disappointingly for Broughton, Heard was taken to hospital as a precaution following a nasty knee knock during the game. Early reports are good, suggesting merely strained ligaments.
