Uni Team To Face French

Scottish Universities Rugby has selected their squad of 22 to take on French Universities at Myreside, Edinburgh on Friday 5th February at 7.30pm.

Following the match in Toulouse last year this game represents an opportunity to benchmark current progress of Scottish Universities rugby. It is hoped a large local and vocal crowd will come and support the students for what will certainly be a fast and free flowing contest.

Many of players this year will be making their debut at this level, following trials in October and subsequent squad sessions. Jamie Rupar (Aberdeen) once again captains the Universities, in a squad containing representatives from 10 different Scottish institutions. A strong core of the squad in addition to representing their University play for sides in the top three Scottish Premier leagues. Such experience will be invaluable in competing against the very strong French, who will no doubt play with the typical brand of open rugby and close quarter aggression the country is renowned for.

This is the first of two games Scottish University Rugby will play, the next against Irish Universities on 18th March will be played in Ireland.

Following the match against French Universities there will be a Dinner for the guests in partnership with the rugby charity “Hearts and Balls” for who the Scottish Students will be proud to support by having the charity logo on their jersey.
