Ayr - Skippy Looks Forward To Cup Final

Charismatic Ayr captain Damien "Skippy" Kelly can't wait to get onto the Murrayfield pitch in this year's Scottish Hydro Cup Final against Melrose. "It's a fantastic day out for the club and a first cup final appearance and I'm dying to get out there. Melrose have been before and won so it's a big challenge. They're a good side and I'm friendly with a few of their players from the club international side, I expect the banter on the pitch to be full on." he said.
"The club has swung into action and is promoting the event not just in the town but throughout Ayrshire and beyond. It really is amazing to hear about who is coming, a busload from one of the player's workplace, school groups, friends of friends, the propietor of Cafe Ginger is doing a window display as is the main shopping centre, Finnie's the main sports shop too. We think one of the local hairdressers will do a special on pink and black hair dye," he added.
Apart from playing a crucial role in the 1st XV Skippy is also the club development officer and the hugely successful Ayrshire Schools League Finals, quite by accident, will be held at Millbrae the night before the cup final. " There's a real buzz about the place, as Sir Alex would say and then there's the whole business of the league campaign to focus on. We've got West during this week and then another big match on Saturday so it's all go for the players, coaches ,managers and medical team!"
