Biggest Ever Mini Rugby Charity Festival To Be Held In Fintry

The highlight of the mini rugby season in Central Scotland will take place on Sunday 25th April in Fintry with the fourth annual Strathendrick RFC Mini Rugby Charity Festival. Over 600 children will participate from a record 13 Clubs to raise money for three local hospices.

Teams from Allan Glens, GHA, Glasgow Accies, GHK, Lenzie, West of Scotland, Falkirk, Grangemouth, Alloa, Hillfoots, Bannockburn, East Kilbride and of course Strathendrick’s own minis teams, will all come together in Scotland’s largest minis charity rugby festival. Two pro-players from Glasgow Warriors will also attend to give the children support and encouragement.

Being held at the Strathendrick RFC in Fintry this festival promises not just to be a great afternoon of rugby for the children but entertaining and exciting for the supporting families too. It is hoped that significant funds will be raised for the three well-established and local hospices – Strathcarron Hospice in Denny, Robin House in Balloch and The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow. These were chosen as three prominent Scottish charities serving the communities where the teams are coming from.

Iain Somerville, Organiser of the Strathendrick RFC Minis Section says: “We are pleased that many of the Central area clubs are able to join us in this great day of rugby which offers more opposition and brings in new teams, promising to make it an even better festival. This is a day of fun rugby to end the season for the minis section as well as raise much needed funds for three worthwhile hospices.”
Strathendrick has a thriving minis section with some 65-70 children from p3 – p7 (and some even younger) playing on regular basis throughout the season with the Club.

The emphasis is on fun and participation so every playing child will receive a medal and there will also be a trophy for the club which scores the most tries and an award for the club judged to be most sporting. Children and clubs are asked to raise sponsorship for how many tries they will score with prizes for the children who raise the most. There will also be a tombola and prize draw for a few select high value items.
There will be a burger and snack bar for players and spectators. The teams will arrive at 12.15pm with Kick Off at 1pm and it is expected to finish at around 4.15pm.
