Murrayfield Wanderers’ Rhona Lloyd ran in six tries as her side beat the Glasgow cluster to win the Brewin Dolphin under-15 Shield at Dumbreck.
Despite the dramatic score-line the under-15 final was a close fought and highly entertaining encounter with both sides going hell for leather throughout.
Nine tries were scored in an action-packed first-half, Rachael Cook and Rhona Lloyd crossing for a pair of Wanderers tries (one converted by Lucy Park) before Tamara Morrison got Glasgow’s first points on the board, 12-5.
Murrayfield responded well with Cook and Lloyd registering another two tries before Rebecca Main got one back for Glasgow to keep her side in contention, 24-10.
Wanderers however had other ideas and turned on the style, running in a further three unanswered tries – one from Rebecca Innes and two more from the alarmingly prolific Lloyd who made and surpassed her hat-trick to end the half.
HALF TIME: 41-10
Glasgow started well and, with a try from Siobhan McMillan after just one minute, signalled their refusal to give up on the tie, though, as they had done previously, Wanderers’ fight back was ruthless as they scored another four tries (Cook, Park and Lloyd to complete a double-hat-trick) to Glasgow’s two (McMillan and Naimh Stewart), to end the match.
FULL TIME: 69-25
The next match at the home of Cartha Queens Parks witnessed Plockton High School battle back from two tries down to lift the Brewin Dolphin under-18 Shield with a close fought 20-15 win over the Ayrshire Cluster.
Two Ayrshire tries from Siobhan Carbello and Shaun Jameson put them in the driving seat in the first-half but a late Plockton score from Freya Donellan four minutes before the break gave her side a welcome boost just before half-time.
HALF TIME: 5-10
Plockton started brilliantly and a brace from Hannah MacDougal swung the tie in Plockton’s favour for the fist time in the match, 15-0.
Donellan then registered a second try to extend her side’s lead and, while a late score from Ayrshire’s Karen Gemmell made for a tense finish, Plockton held out for the win,
