Gala Whistler At The Double

Scotland’s newest professional referee will control a New Zealand v South Africa international for the second time in three months tomorrow (Friday 20 August).

Andrew McMenemy, the 26-year-old Gala official, will be in charge when Women’s Rugby World Cup holders New Zealand begin the defence of their title against South Africa at Surrey Sports Park, Guildford tomorrow (kick-off 4.15pm).

Back in May, McMenemy was in charge when the countries met at Murrayfield in the men's Emirates Airline Edinburgh Sevens, the finale to the IRB World Series.

McMenemy has refereed a women’s international previously – between Wales and Canada – and around half a dozen women’s games at club level

He said: “It should be a good game.  New Zealand are defending champions and South Africa are coming off a couple of good wins in their warm-up games against Scotland.”
