Deeside U15’s were in action again this past weekend with a league match at home against Mackie. The spectators were treated to 12 tries from Deeside, with Mackie scoring two good tries in reply. The first of Deeside’s tries was scored by Andrew Hardman, playing out of position on the wing but showing good pace and movement to finish off a nice move where the ball went right along the back line. Duncan Harle added the next three, his lightning pace a key factor in all, but with a good offload after a tackle from James Long the key move for the third of them. Captain Liam Hutcheon scored next for Deeside breaking through the Mackie defence in the centre and finishing at pace. Prop Elliot Wood was next to score with a strong drive and Deeside went into the half time break with a comfortable lead of 34-12. Deeside started the second half with another forwards try from lock Alex Taylor whose long reach allowed him to ground the ball after being well tackled by the determined Mackie defence just half a metre short of the line. James long then added his second try for the club, finishing off a good quick backline ball, but still having plenty to do to fimish the move and showing excellent game awareness. Full back John Crilly added the next with very some determined running using his power to break through the Mackie line, Duncan Harle then added another taking his tally to four. Elliot Wood and John Crilly added the final two Deeside tries giving a final score of 74-12. Overall the game wasn’t as one-sided as the score suggests and Mackie put together some very good passages of play being unlucky not to finish several of them with tries of their own. Against a full strength Mackie side this would no doubt have been a much more closely contested game.
