Errors Cost Young Scots

Under 18 international: Wales 45 Scotland 29

Wales built on recent victories over Italy and Japanese High Schools with a 45-29 success against Scotland at the famous St Helens ground in Swansea this afternoon.

The Scots did post four tries – double the tally they had managed against Ireland in defeat last weekend – but again they could not rise to the heights that saw them account for England a fortnight ago. “We missed a few one on one tackles and those errors cost us,” reflected the Scots’ manager, John Manson.

Openside flanker Will Bordill and lock Callum Templeton won plaudits for their appetite for work while Scotland’s points came from tries by centre Robbie Fergusson, full-back Sam Hidalgo Clyne, substitute back-row forward Danny Kennedy and substitute full-back Keith Buchan.  Hidalgo Clyne landed two conversions, while stand-off Tommy Allan goaled one conversion and one penalty.

Scotland under-18 now head for Tarbes in France on Thursday to play in the FIRA/AER competition where their first game will be against their Romanian counterparts next Saturday with a 4.30pm kick-off local time.
