Edinburgh U16 10 Glasgow U16 14Hallhill, DunbarSunday 10th April Glasgow made it two from two in this year’s Under 16 National Identification Fixtures versus a strong and very competitive Edinburgh team who battled from the first whistle to the last. It was clearly going to be a struggle for the visiting Glasgow team who were pushed and pulled all over the park by a very dominant aggressive Edinburgh team who played all their rugby in the Glasgow 22 with their stand-off Henry Slater constantly putting the Glasgow team on the back foot with intelligent kicks in behind the quick Glasgow defence. With Glasgow not able to control the contact areas Edinburgh were the team first on the score sheet when one too many attacks lead to a score in the corner that they failed to convert. With Glasgow giving them self a shake at half time they did manage to start competing at the breakdown and after Edinburgh had extended their lead to 10-0 Glasgow started to get more physical and loose forward Anton Ward crashed over the white wash to get Glasgow back into the game. Gavin Lowe converted and it was now 10-7 with 15 minutes to play. Glasgow were rewarded for their hard work late into the second half when they got an easily kickable penalty but opted to kick for the corner and get their pack driving. With a well worked drive and a couple of plays in the midfield Glasgow were unlucky not to get a try when substitute hooker Grant Stewart was deemed to be held up over the try line. However from the following scrum and a number of close rucks, Glasgow lock Ewan Bulger drove his way over for a try and set Gavin Lowe up for his second kick of the game taking the score to 10-14. The last few minutes were tense with Edinburgh fighting hard to the end but Glasgow held on to take the win. They will now play Caledonia U16 at GHA on Sunday 17th April. Caledonia have also won their first two matches and have set up an exciting end to the U16 pathways.
