Strathendrick Rugby Club have crowned a memorable season by becoming champions of West Division 1 - with a game to spare!
The unseasonal weather at the turn of the year meant that the Fintry team were due to play Uddingston home and away in the last two games of this extended season - needing to win either one of them to head off the challenge of closest rivals, Lenzie, [who were looking to return to the National Leagues at their first attempt].
In the event the Stirlingshire side won 14 - 3 on Saturday and so secured the West Division 1 title - which was presented to Strathendrick Club Captain James Cuthbertson and Club President Nick Hawkins after the game by Eddie Crozier, SRU Glasgow North Council representative and Board Member, and Archie Ferguson (pictured).
This success follows the Club's trip to Murrayfield where Strathendrick were runners up to Duns in the final of the Scottish Rugby Regional Bowl competition.
Strathendrick are coached by Dave Cook, of Clan Crossfit, a professional fitness instructor, and includes in its squad former Scotland international Rory Kerr, veterans Sandy Cuthbertson (father of the skipper) and Bruce Duncan as well as the best young rugby talent from Balfron High School. The Club scored the most and conceded the least points in the Division and so are worthy Champions.
Interestingly all but one of the six finalists in the Scottish Rugby men's knock out competitions also won their respective leagues titles this year:
Melrose won Premier 1;
Lasswade won National 1;
Hawick YM won National 2;
Duns won East Division 1
Strathendrick have completed the set by winning West Division 1
Only Ayr missed out but they did win the Cup!
