As Beltane week moves towards its climax tomorrow, Gytes Gossip invites all members and supporters to go along to the Tontine to see what the boys have come up with for this years show. Much hard work has gone into it, with hours of practice to get things just right, so please get along tonight or tomorrow and give the boys a big hand.
Tomorrow sees delegates gather at Murrayfield for the SRU AGM where once again the subject of league reconstruction is on the agenda with a motion to increase regionalisation and an amendment to curb the plan for the premiership divisions – we will await the outcome with interest.
Preparations are also now under way for the club AGM which will be held on Friday 1st July at 7:30pm in the Eastgate clubrooms – all members are asked to make the effort to attend. Details are now available on the club noticeboard. There are still some posts to be filled for the coming season and as usual all volunteers will be made most welcome.
Year on year the ‘closed season’ appears to get shorter – pre-season training commences this year on Monday 11th July at 7:00pm sharp and will continue on a 3 nights a week basis towards the season’s start. We will be having a warm up game on Sat 6th August, possibly against Premier 1 Melrose (TBC). We will then train on Tuesday & Thursday W/C 8th August, with a midweek fixture against Lasswade, new boys in Premier 3, as there is no Saturday fixture, because it is the Peebles Show weekend. (13th August) We train on Tuesday and Thursday the following week with an away game against established Premier 3 opposition, Dumfries, on Sat 20th August, and the week after this we train Tuesday and Thursday as the build up to the first league fixture on Sat 27th August. We will have had 20 Rugby & Fitness Sessions under our belt by then, and we have to be ready for the kick off on the 27th August, as next season will be a massive challenge for the club as we attempt to move into the top tier of Scottish Rugby, and Premier 2 will be stronger and more competitive than it’s ever been.
Later this summer Peebles RFC DO George Blair will be running two summer skills camps, one in conjunction with Peebles High School Rugby. The first will take place throughout the month of July on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Hay Lodge Park. The timetable is Tuesdays 10am – 12noon P1 – P3 group, Tuesdays 1pm – 3pm P6 –P7 group and on Thursdays 10am – 12noon P4 – P5 group and from 1pm – 3pm S1 – S3 group, these will cost £2 per session. The second camp will take place up at the High School and will be held on 8th and 9th August from 10am – 3pm both days – it will be open to all age groups from P1 – S2 and will cost £15 per player.
