Gytes Gossip

Jim Currie hosted a successful Summer Outing at Haswellsykes – a fine time being had by the large company who attended, with fine food and musical entertainment being appreciated during the afternoon and evening.

Tomorrow sees the first of the warm-up games as Peebles move into the final phase of pre-season preparations. Aberdeen GSFP are the visitors to the Gytes tomorrow with a 3:00pm kick-off. This will be a stiff test for the home side, the visitors having achieved promotion to Premier 1 last season. This coming Thursday Peebles travel to Hawick for the second of the arranged fixtures in the warm-up schedule – another stiff test for the players. Our schedule is completed on Thursday 18th August away at Dumfries. For those intending to travel both games have 7:30pm kick-offs.

As a reward for over sixty years of loyal service to the game Donald Swanson will be one of a number of volunteers who will be the guests of the SRU at Murrayfield for the World Cup warm-up match against Ireland, having been nominated by the Peebles club. Donald will be accompanied by son John.

The club is currently engaged in securing a caterer to provide hot food and drinks at home 1st XV matches – further details will be posted in Gytes Gossip when the matter is finalised.

For those fans not visiting the Agricultural Show in Hay Lodge park next Saturday - the Colts have arranged a warm-up fixture with Dunbar at the Gytes  ko 3:00pm.

The membership renewals have now been issued both by email and on paper, and members are asked to complete the form in order that we can keep an accurate up-to-date list. It is especially important for those who are making a donation to complete the gift aid section, including signing the declaration, as the club, being registered under the HMRC CASC scheme, can reclaim the tax deemed to have been paid to the extent of 25p in the pound. At this time of year with the preparation for the season in full swing prompt payment would be appreciated as the club has extra bills to meet. Completed forms and payment can either be sent to John Swanson at the address shown on the top of the form or can be left behind the bar in the Eastgate Clubrooms. Forms are also available in the clubrooms.

The skills camp in conjunction with Peebles High School will take place up at the High School on 8th and 9th August from 10am – 3pm both days – it will be open to all age groups from P1 – S2 and will cost £15 per player.
