This weekend sees the Colts – supported again this coming season by BARC -off to France on tour where they will play US Annecy as well as having some training sessions. Next Saturday sees the start of the league programme with Peebles - sponsored this season by Glenrath Farm Eggs - visiting newly promoted Whitecraigs, with the visiting support hoping for a better day than our last visit when a combination of severe gales and driving rain greeted them
The club is pleased to announce that Risotto4u will be catering for most home games down at the Gytes, with a menu including hot soup, hot and cold drinks, filled rolls and hot dogs, starting with the Stew/Mel game on September 3rd. This service is really appreciated by the fans home and away alike.
The club now has a revamped website up and running. This is accessed in the same way as before from www.peeblesrfc.org. All enquiries and items for inclusion should be sent to our new webmaster Adam Clark – firstname.lastname@example.org.
The members are asked to complete renewals by completing the form issued or by completing one in the bar so that the club can keep an accurate up-to-date list. It is especially important for those who are making a donation to complete the gift aid section, including signing the declaration, as the club, being registered under the HMRC CASC scheme, can reclaim the tax deemed to have been paid to the extent of 25p in the pound. At this time of year with the preparation for the season in full swing prompt payment would be appreciated as the club has extra bills to meet. Completed forms and payment can either be sent to John Swanson at the address shown on the top of the form or can be left behind the bar in the Eastgate Clubrooms.
The following players from our under-16 squad – supported by The Courthouse - are to be congratulated on their selection into the pathways squads – Ronan Caine, Sam Mathews, Murray Phaup, David Campbell, Ollie Freeman, Craig Pringle, Murray Brown and William Napier.
The Peebles Piranhas new season kicks off on tomorrow with a training session at 10.00am at The Gytes which will be followed by a rugby festival. All primary school children are welcome with sessions offered for all ages from P1 to P7. The emphasis is on FUN and we encourage any children who are interested, whether they have played rugby before, or are just keen to try something new. No knowledge of the game is required and instruction will be given by trained coaches.
This year the season will run every Sunday from August until the end of October when we will then have break for the winter. Sessions will then recommence from the beginning of March through to June and we have games arranged for p3-p7 age groups throughout the season.
If you would like to join in the fun please come along to the first session at The Gytes or look up the Peebles Rugby Club website for more details. As always we are on the lookout for more volunteers to help us with running these sessions so please let us know if you are willing: no knowledge of rugby is required as you’ll soon find out if you watch us!
All involved with the Piranhas would like to say a massive thank you to Jim King who retired at the end of the season after 8 years in charge of the Piranhas. We have now formed a committee of 12 members just to look after the work Jim did on his own! We hope Jim can now enjoy his free time- there will be plenty of it!
Tomorrow the Gytes Centre will be having an open day with taster sessions being held by the various clubs – including Peebles RFC – which are users of the facilities. Why not pop down and see just what the Gytes has to offer.
A timely reminder that the ever popular LeRoc Jive classes take place at the Eastgate clubrooms starting on Tuesday 30th August at 7:30pm for a seven week course. The cost for the course is £35 – contact 0131 478 1286 or www.lerocscotland.com or email email@example.com for details and bookings.
