Last Saturday Glenrath Farm Eggs sponsored Peebles travelled down into Dumfriesshire to take part in the Annan XV’s tournament. After 4 games and remaining undefeated, with a combination of slick attacking and strong defence, and despite an early scare by Dumfries, Peebles lifted the Violetbank Shield.
Last weekend the Colts – supported again this season by BARC - went to France on tour where they played US Annecy as well as having some training sessions – returning with a 21-5 victory over their hosts under their belts. Preparations for the season ahead wound up on Wednesday when a combined Colts/PHS 1ST XV played Dartford Grammar School on Wednesday at the Gytes.
Tomorrow sees the start of the RBS Premier League Division 2 programme with Peebles - sponsored this season by Glenrath Farm Eggs - visiting newly promoted Whitecraigs. The visiting supporters are hoping for a better day than our last visit to Aurs Road when a combination of severe gales and driving rain greeted them.
The 2nd XV – supported by FIRST XV and rugbystuff.com – travel to Gala for a Border 2nd XV cup tie.
The Colts – supported by BARC again this season – begin their Border Semi-junior League program away at Langholm. Hopes are high once more for the Colts in the league.
The club now has a revamped website up and running. This is accessed in the same way as before from www.peeblesrfc.org or directly via www.pitchero.com/clubs/peeblesrubgyfootballclub. All enquiries and items for inclusion should be sent to our new webmaster Adam Clark – firstname.lastname@example.org.
The members who have paid their subscription can pick up their new membership cards and fixture lists from the clubrooms tonight between 9pm and 11pm. Those still to renew are asked to complete renewal using the form issued or by completing one in the bar so that the club can keep an accurate up-to-date list. It is especially important for those who are making a donation to complete the gift aid section, including signing the declaration, as the club, being registered under the HMRC CASC scheme, can reclaim the tax deemed to have been paid to the extent of 25p in the pound. Completed forms and payment can either be sent to John Swanson at the address shown on the top of the form or can be left behind the bar in the Eastgate Clubrooms.
Members will be familiar with the concept of the pre-match sponsor’s lunches, now David Swan is looking into the idea of having a lunch club. Things are at an early stage at present but any members who would be interested in being part of such a venture should contact either David Swan or Gerard Bony for further details.
The warmth of the sun bearing down form a cloudless blue sky, the smell of freshly cut grass and the cries of joy from dozens of children having fun in the park. It can only mean one thing: the beginning of another rugby season for the Peebles Piranhas. Last Saturday was the first training session for all children of primary school children and we had a great turnout with returning seasoned campaigners and a host of fresh new faces (and that was just the coaches- there were lots of new players as well!)
Refreshed by the holidays and bolstered by the new recruits, training for the Piranhas will continue on Sunday mornings at Peebles High School from 10am to 11.15am. We welcome new players at any of our sessions and look forward to helping any children of primary school age enjoy the fun. Just turn up or consult the minis section of the club website for more details (and to laugh at the photos of the coaches.)
