Gytes Gossip

Last Saturday Glenrath Farm Eggs sponsored Peebles travelled west to Newton Mearns for their first RBS premier 2 fixture against Whitecraigs who were promoted from Premier 3 last season but unfortunately returned empty handed following a 25 – 15 defeat.

The Colts – supported by BARC again this season – began their Border     Semi-junior League program away at Langholm following their success on tour in France. A strong performance saw them return with a big win under their belts.

Tonight the club under-16 side – supported by The Courthouse Restaurant – are in action against their Melrose counterparts at the Gytes ko 6:00pm. Members are asked to come along and support the boys.

Tomorrow Glenrath Farm Eggs sponsored Peebles entertain Stew/Mel at the Gytes in RBS Premier Division 2. Stew/Mel are coached by Bruce McNaughton who along with Steven Ferguson coached Peebles to promotion from Premier 3 and also to the Shield final at Murrayfield. Bruce was joined at Stew/Mel this season by former Peebles stalwart Willie Aitken. This match is sponsored by Jim and Fiona Currie of Haswellsykes. There will be entertainment in the clubrooms later in the evening.

Risotto4u will be providing pitchside catering at the Gytes for the Stew/Mel game – with soup, hot and cold drinks, hot dogs and risotto available.

The seconds – supported by FIRST XV and rugbystuff.com – have a home Border Cup tie against Melrose Knights ko 3:00pm at Hay Lodge.

The Colts – supported by BARC – are also at home when they play Jed Thistle – ko 2:00pm at Peebles High School. Supporters intending to watch the Colts are asked to note the earlier kick-off time.

On Saturday morning Peebles High School teams from years S1 thru S3 play their counterparts from Earlston at the school pitches ko 9:45 – supporters are welcome to  encourage these players of the future.

Members still to renew can do so at the Gytes tomorrow prior to kick-off by bringing along completed forms along with their sub – there will be blank forms available for those who require them, subs can also be paid at the bar in the clubrooms where there are blank forms available for those who need them. It is especially important for those who are making a donation to complete the gift aid section, including signing the declaration, as the club, being registered under the HMRC CASC scheme, can reclaim the tax deemed to have been paid to the extent of 25p in the pound. Completed forms and payment can either be sent to John Swanson at the address shown on the top of the form or can be left behind the bar in the Eastgate Clubrooms. Membership cards for those paid before Tuesday have either been posted or delivered. John will have some undelivered cards with him on Saturday.

Members will be familiar with the concept of the pre-match sponsor’s lunches, now David Swan is looking into the idea of having a lunch club. Things are at an early stage at present but any members who would be interested in being part of such a venture should contact either David Swan or Gerard Bony for further details.
